Baseball Fans Taking it All in with HDTV

10-10-2005

October 10, 2005: ST. LOUIS, MO – As a businessman, the Major League Baseball playoffs are giving Richard Schneider plenty of reasons to smile.

Schneider is the President of Antennas Direct, a manufacturer of off-air rooftop antennas for high-definition television (HDTV) sets.  The FOX Network is offering the 2005 MLB pennant chase in high definition.  As baseball fans scramble to outfit their living rooms for the playoffs in HD, sales of Antennas Direct’s product line are seeing record increases.

In the Chicago market, sales are up 189 percent over October of last year, with the White Sox making their first visit to the World Series since 1959.  Schneider said playoff season sales figures are on the rise nationwide.  Houston saw a 240 percent sales increase, and sales numbers in the St. Louis market are up a remarkable 400 percent compared to ‘04.  Some retailers and installers have even started waiting lists to keep up with the demand for the Antennas Direct product.

In some markets, the only way to pick up an HD network broadcast like Fox’s postseason coverage is through an antenna.  But Schneider said that even in markets where the networks are carried by HD cable providers, the picture quality is not up to par with the expectations of consumers, or the capabilities of their HDTV set.

“Antennas simply provide HDTV owners with the best picture possible on their television set, without exception,” Schneider said.  “They are also a much more cost-efficient way to get your television signal than cable.”

Antennas Direct is a St. Louis-based manufacturer and distributor of off-air HDTV antennas.
